PHYSICALLY DISABLED CANDIDATES

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SIPDS TRAINING TEAM

As a physically disabled SIPDS trainer, you are unique—and your uniqueness, alone, will bring a richness and depth of learning to our trainees (current TPD officers). In our instructional sessions, you will work both independently—and in tandem with a former law enforcement officer (LEO)—to ensure trainees learn the following information and skills:

  • The Human Side of Living Life with a Disability: what’s the nature of your disability, how you honestly feel about it, a general impression of what your day looks like, and how your disability impacts your life

  • Strengths and Weaknesses: what can—and can’t—you do, what is your balance like, where might you need assistance

  • Your Preference: share how you want others to see and treat you

  • Specific methods for disengaging mobility devices like yours—and the occasional need for this

  • Strategies for keeping LEO and suspect safe when interacting with a physically disabled person

  • Methods for cuffing someone with your disability and corresponding abilities

  • Searching suspects with your disability and similar mobility devices, and . . .

  • How LEO can support other physically disabled people sharing your particular disability, if they are on the ground for any reason (if you’re willing, there may be occasions when you’re out of your mobility device—but very few)

SIPDS will be delivered both in a classroom-style, as well as, in hands-on, interactive breakout sessions where you will provide direct support to trainees to ensure they understand and successfully implement the requisite skills noted in the above bullet points.

CONTRACT INCLUDES: This is a part-time W-2 employee opportunity encompassing two 6-hour paid Training Sessions for you and 35 paid Instructional Sessions for our trainees. These 35 Instructional Sessions span 10-months, and the dates are in the application below.
